Houston, we've got an EGG!

Woohoo! *happy dance* We got our first egg today!!

We have no idea which of our darling ducks layed the egg (no one has yet claimed it), but we are just tickled pink to discover it (actually my eldest daughter discovered it in the duck barn).

I would have loved to have seen our darlings when it was layed... all of them trying to figure out just what had happened (this being their first and all)! LOL

We are very happy the geese didn't stomp it with their big flapping feet and we are looking forward to seeing if we have any more tomorrow.

Durham Fair Ducks

We went to the Durham Fair this weekend and found these cuties quacking away...
The majority of ducks at the fair were Call ducks...

and several Pekin ducks...

There was also one Runner that was tan and white, but I wasn't able to get a photo as there were too many people and he was on the floor under other caged poultry.
No Blue Swedish ducks at the Fair at all, we were disappointed by that. We had hoped to see some others.
We did not enter any animals in the Fair - we'd miss them too much!

Preparing for Hurricane Irene

We are in the direct path of Hurricane Irene and very concerned about our ducks and geese. They will be locked up tight this afternoon with lots of food and water, but the duck barn is under a tree line with lots of large limbs. Our concern is a tree or heavy limb falling on the barn and killing or injuring our flock.
We've done the best we can, the rest is up to God.

Here are some recent photos the kids took with their iPods...
This is Remy (Remington)...
